IFSCCodes.io is an independent informational directory for Indian bank IFSC codes, MICR codes and branch details. This page explains where our information comes from, how records are checked, how corrections are reviewed and what the directory cannot verify.
Our source hierarchy
1. Reserve Bank of India information
Our primary reference for IFSC availability is Reserve Bank of India information for NEFT-enabled bank branches and Indian Financial System Codes supplied by participating member banks.
- RBI list of NEFT-enabled bank branches and IFSC details
- RBI NEFT frequently asked questions
- RBI RTGS branch and IFSC information
2. Official bank sources
Where available, we compare records with official bank branch locators, bank websites, customer notices, merger or renaming announcements and other information published by the relevant bank.
3. Correction reports
User submissions are treated as leads for investigation, not as authoritative sources. A submitted correction never changes a public record automatically. Material changes require supporting evidence from RBI, the relevant bank or another reliable official source.
Information we may publish
- bank name and standardized bank identity;
- the 11-character IFSC code;
- branch name, address and location;
- state or union territory, district and city;
- MICR code where supported by a reliable source;
- NEFT, RTGS, IMPS or related service indicators where available.
A blank field may mean that we do not yet have a sufficiently reliable value to publish.
How records are checked
- IFSC format validation. The code must follow the standard 11-character structure.
- Bank identity matching. Bank names and known aliases are mapped to a consistent public name without changing the IFSC.
- Duplicate review. Duplicate and near-duplicate rows are compared before publication.
- Location standardization. State, district, city, locality and address text are cleaned for consistent search without changing the meaning of the source.
- Conflict detection. Records with conflicting bank, branch or IFSC information are held for review.
- Completeness checks. Records missing critical identifiers may be withheld until stronger information becomes available.
How database changes are handled
Records are refreshed when updated RBI or official bank information becomes available, when a correction is verified, or when bank mergers, renamings, relocations, closures and technology changes require review. A new source file is not treated as automatically correct in every field. Records still pass publication checks before becoming searchable.
Branch closures, mergers and replaced IFSC codes
When a code appears to be closed, replaced or reassigned, we try to confirm the change through RBI or the relevant bank before modifying the public record. An older IFSC should not be used for a new transfer without confirmation from the bank.
Correction review process
Use the Report Incorrect IFSC Details page to report a possible error. Include the IFSC, the field believed to be wrong, the proposed correction and an official source URL where possible.
- We identify the specific public record.
- We check current RBI information and available official bank evidence.
- We compare the report with the existing record.
- We update, withhold or retain the record based on the strongest evidence available.
We may postpone or decline a correction when the evidence is incomplete, unofficial or contradictory.
What we cannot verify
IFSCCodes.io does not have access to bank core systems or customer accounts. We cannot verify account ownership, account status, beneficiary identity, transfer status, refunds, fraud reports, live branch hours, cash availability or staff availability.
For those matters, contact the relevant bank using details from its official website, mobile application, cheque book or bank card.
Known limitations
Official data can contain abbreviations, older address formats, spelling variations, missing fields or reporting delays. RBI datasets and bank websites may update at different times. No independent directory can guarantee that every branch detail is complete and current at every moment.
Use this directory as a research and verification aid, not as the sole authority for a financial transaction. Read our Disclaimer and Terms of Use.
Editorial accountability
The IFSC Codes Editorial Team is responsible for these publication rules, reviewing correction evidence and maintaining trust and safety information. Commercial requests do not determine whether a bank record is added, removed or changed.
Questions about our methodology may be sent to info@ifsccodes.io or through the Contact page.
